E4. Plan an overseas holiday for your family. Budget for flights, accommodation, food and activities. Present your itinerary.

New York:

Flights:
Flying to new york with 4 adults using emirates costs $13,591.

Hotels:
High end: Waldorf Astoria (Breakfast and Wifi) $484, per night.
Lower End: Pod 51 Hotel $269, per night.

Activities:
Visit the empire state building. If you wanted to visit the empire state building there are 2 main options, you can go for a standard tour which costs $208 for 4 adults (You would be touring the 86th, 102nd floor, main deck and top deck.)

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
This one is a cheaper options as it only costs $18 per adult, so for $72 for 4 adults.

Chinatown:
You can go to China Town if you want to go shopping or if you want to go to a restaurant.

Restaurants:
A high end restaurant is per se, it is a high end restaurant which has great reviews and very good chefs.

A lower end restaurant is le bernardin, it still had very good reviews and is a lot cheaper.

Overall I think New York would be a wonderful place to visit, even though it is very expensive.
Personally I would love to go to a big department store in New York, but it still would be a dream come true to go to New York in general. I would want to go shopping and broadway especially.

Open nights - Homework Challenge

For a homework challenge I went to 3 different open nights. I really liked all of them but some stoof out more then others.
The first one I'm talking about is Hagley College I didn't mind it But It wasn't my favourite as I just didn't feel as interested but, it still is a good school and I have a friend who goes there who's doing well. I noticed that in year nine you don't choose a specific set of subjects to do, you do a bit of everything.

The second one I'm talking about is Burnside high school I saw it was very big school with lots of students! and the drama is amazing I really like drama so I thought that was very cool I also really liked the speeches The head students gave I really liked them and found them very interesting. I also LOVED the library because it was massive and I love reading!

The last one I'm talking about is Hillmortan High school. I really liked this one! I saw some of my friends from last year and they were very welcoming. I really liked the cooking and science I think they were very cool I also liked the                                                                                               computer stuff they did with 3D printing and                                                                                           programming.

Home work challenge - Research a different culture. Find out how their culture differs to yours

Research a different culture. Find out how their culture differs to yours
For the culture I'm researching, I'm researching Jewish culture because I'm currently reading Anne Frank so I thought it would be a good idea.

Jewish culture;

cuisine:
Jewish cuisine is very different then English cuisine, their cuisine consists of lots of soup and lots of different types
bread fish specifically NOT shellfish, and other food some traditional meals consist of Hamantashen (Triangular pastry filled\
with poppy seed or prune paste, or fruit jams)
Kreplach (Boiled dumpling similar to pierogi or gyoza, filled with meat or mashed potatoes and served in chicken broth.)
and Kugel (Baked sweet or savoury casserole made of noodles or potatoes with vegetables, fruits, fresh cheese, or other items)

Weddings:
Before the weddings starts the groom has to sign a marriage contract that's talks about food, clothing etc the signing
must have 2 witnesses. The bride usually walks around the groom 3-7 times when they arrive at the Chuppah this comes from the religious quote a
"a woman shall surround a man." After the bride has been giving the ring the groom breaks glass under his right foot.

Celebrations
A very inportant Jewish celebrations is hanukkah the celebration lasts 8 days this year it goes from 24 december to 1st of
january. There are many ways people celebrate it. one of the ways is using a dreidel, a dreidel is a 4 sided top that
jews use for gambeling reasons. The main foods they eat on hanukkah are very oily foods. They also give presents to
each other.

Traditions
Every Friday evening/Saturday Jews have a tradition called Shabbat, Its when on a Friday evening they finish up all their work
specifically cleaning they also create a specific mood in the house like playing Jewish music and lighting candles.
They also make a very important Jewish dinner. Also on a Saturday all the shops close. As on that day they stand by the quote
"Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of Adonai your God."

As I don't have a religion I have to base the culture around where I'm from (England)
English culture:

Cuisine:
there are different types of English cuisine there is a traditional English afternoon tea which consists of tea, pastries etc.
There is also a traditional Sunday, Sunday roast which my family have every Sunday in the winter, fish chips and mushy peas,
Steak and kidney pudding, full English breakfast.

Traditions:
Saint Georges day is the national day of England. It is celebrated on April the 3rd (also the aneversy of saint Georges death.)
The legend is about saint George and his army killed a dragon to save a princess. In sports events you will see a lot of the flag
of saint George being flown around.

Celebrations:
England celebrates a lot of well known celebrations, like Christmas and Easter

Weddings:
Traditional English weddings usualyt start at a church where the bride and groom get married in front of family and close
friends. After that they the church they go to a nice hotel where they have a nice meal. After dinner the best man, the groom
and the brides father all do a speech. Everyone usually comes bearing a present. After the meal, speeches and the cake has been cut
the evening starts where other people arrive for the party. The bride and groom have the first dance then the nights carries on.

Research an important person or event in NZ’s history (Homework Challenge)

                                                           Margret Mahy

Mahy first worked as a Librarian in Pentone (The school library service in Christchurch) And In 1976 worked at the Canterbury public library as a children's libarean. She got the tattoo as she was writing about a person being tattooed and felt as the best way to write about it would be to experience it herself. In 2007 Mahy adopted a puppy and named it Honey because of its colour.

In April of 2012 Mahy was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous jaw tumour.  Mahy Sadly Passed away at Nurse Maude Hospice, St Albans, Christchurch on 23 July 2012, aged 76.

The impact of the social media on a student’s health and well-being (homework challenge)

The impact of the social media on a student’s health and well-being

Social Media can have a massive impact on our health and well-being, considering the fact that it used so frequently now.

Social media can have a mix of being good for our health or not. it might not be good for our health as we're looking at a screen, It also isn't good if we're not going outside and being active.

A positive with social media for our health that alot of people make pages, that have information that can help students and also it's a form of entertainment that alot of students enjoy.

For well-being something that isn't good for our well-being is all the cyber bully's that we have online and that doesn't make social media very positive from that perspective.

But a positive can be that social media is a way to express yourself and just do things that you specifically enjoy and that can be really good for our well-being.

Overall there are more negatives then positives for our health and well-being as it is affecting our health alot, as for the convince of social media as obesity level rises social media takes alot of the blame for that. People are now lacking social skills.
